NUMERO 8. Made in the Now

I've been asked to participate in the Made in the Now project. The mission (if you decide to accept it) is to design a t-shirt based on daily current affairs. The possible stories are given to the public to vote via facebook for the design of the day. You are only given 2hrs to produce a 90% finished piece.

This was hard work! Time flew and afterwards there's that lingering feeling that I could/should have done more. Anyway. My story was about the recent finding of oil in Kenya and it's implications.

My response: Kenya is known around the world for its wildlife. The discovery of oil presents an economic opportunity but at the same time a possible threat to the environment. I wanted to link these ideas together by imagining an unusual backdrop to a wildlife safari.

BTW: the t-shirts are only for sale for 24hrs. Today's news, tomorrow's history...

NUMERO 7. My first oil painting

I've started oils at school. Very daunting at first, but I totally love the medium. It was so much fun the blending and richness of the colours and the textures. It's great!

I'm starting a new one next week, a more complex subject, can hardly wait!

NUMERO 6. Curvy

I'm so excited about this!

Once again my illustration work has been selected to appear in Curvy.  Curvy is a fantastic book and exhibition series showcasing female graphic artists and illustrators in the world today. I'm very happy to be a part of it again.

Curvy 8 will come out on May 9.

NUMERO 5. Bonnie Prince Billy

Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) played at the Sydney Opera House last Monday. He's a superb lyricist and singer. His music is inspiring and powerful. It was the first time I saw him play live, hopefully not the last!

Bonnie Prince Billy and the Cairo Gang.

NUMERO 4. HOW and NOSM

I have been blown away by the work on twin brothers How and Nosm. They are muralists and have left their mark in various countries around the world.

Their work is intricate. Stories within stories like a drawing by Escher. The figures are dissected and reveal the most amazing detail. And we are talking big, these paintings are HUGE!

NUMERO 3. Local Market Guide

Do you love Markets? One of my clients, The Local Market Guide, connects the market loving community in the area. If you want to find a market in your area or a stall holder simply visit http://www.localmarketguide.com.au/

For me, it has been lots of fun. Working with the existing brand, the client requested a graphic boost in it's materials. Inspired by vintage shop signs and typography the new materials show a distinct style of communication that is inspired, fun and memorable. Below a couple of the different pieces developed.

NUMERO 2. School

For almost 6 months I have been going to art school.

I'm attending the Julian Ashton Art school here in Sydney. http://julianashtonartschool.com.au

It's a great school and I'm loving every day I'm there. It's a classical school, so drawing casts is the order of the day. Accurately and beautifully is the motto!

I'll keep you posted about my progress!
