NUMERO 22. Party time!

I always look forward to the time of doing my niece and nephew's birthday party invitations. Always thinking of easier, cost-effective and fun ways to produce the cards.

From forest animals to manga characters, it's so much fun!

NUMERO 21. Into the Blue

Last week opened in Katoomba  The World Heritage Interpretive Centre, Into the Blue. Lucky me I got to design all the graphics content of the centre. In there you can experience the uniqueness and magnetism of the Mountains. Their past, present and why are a UNESCO heritage site.

More images showing the details to come.

NUMERO 20. BECK!!!

I love Beck. Have been a fan since I was in high school. Crazy. I feel old, I'm sure he doesn't.

Saw him at the State Theater in Sydney. The theater was the perfect backdrop for such an amazing artist. He played for two hours! Opened with Loser.

New song Looking for a sign awesome!

Here are some of the pics of the night.

NUMERO 18. My first portrait

I have been working on portraiture at school, the guinea pig for this first attempt was my darling husband Michael. I'm hope he doesn't mind being drawn over and over again until I can get closer to capturing his face! I think that in the final product he looks a bit fat, but the resemblance is there, that is Michael.

The process to get the portrait working is long and frustrating (well, for me it was). I took pictures of most of the stages, I find it quite interesting how it came together.

A 3 tonal drawing is done on the subject.

After understanding the light source and how it affects
the object, we can move onto the canvas.

I drew Michael all over again, as I wasn't very pleased
with my tonal study, I knew I could do better.

After the drawing is ready, we can start applying colour.
Here his jacket and background.
Now his face is very scary to look at. There's no real colour added
to his skin yet, the important part of the exercise is to understand the different tonal values of his head. Here we work with 6 tones. All the canvas should be covered.
Funny fact: blue eyes are hardly blue. Here they are too blue.

After the canvas has been totally covered we can start looking at
the warmth of the skin and the subtleties of the light and tone on the subject.

Warmer face.

And here it is. My first portrait.

NUMERO 17. Back from the Dead

I'm sure this won't be the last revival for this blog. I will try my hardest to keep it up to date and have more posts.

Be sure my silence was not because of lack of action and something to tell. Actually they have been some pretty crazy couple of months. So here it comes my second attempt!

Something to get in the mood...!

NUMERO 14. Toronto

Yes, there has been a long silence. But the best excuse is that I've been away, spending the month of July in Toronto.
